HTC Corporation
Headquartered in New Taipei City, Taiwan, HTC Corporation, is a Taiwanese manufacturer of smartphones and tablets. The company was founded in 1997 by Cher Wang , H. T. Cho , and Peter Chou. At first, HTC was a manufacturer of notebook computers. The company then built its reputation as designer and manufacturer of many of the most popular OEM-branded mobile devices on the market.
In 1998, HTC started designing some of the world’s first touch and wireless hand-held devices. The company was manufacturing devices such as mobile phones, touchscreen phones, and PDAs based on Windows Mobile OS and Brew (Binary Runtime Environment Wireless) MP. Official website: htc.com
HTC History
In 2002, HTC created the first Android smartphone, and the first Microsoft-powered smartphone (“Stinger”) – the SPV. The company also created Large 2.8″ TFT touch-screen LCD display – O2 XDA/T-Mobile Germany MDA/T-Mobile PPC Phone, Microsoft wireless Pocket PC – XDA, MDA and PPC in the same year.
In 2004, HTC created Microsoft Smart Music Phone – SDA/SDA Music.
In 2005, HTC created HTC Universal, the first 3G Microsoft Windows Mobile 5.0 device. The company also created Tri-band UMTS PDA in the same year. HTC also created 3G CDMA Windows Mobile 5 phone, the PPC-6700 (Sprint) and XV6700 (Verizon).
In 2006, HTC created Cingular 8525, Tri-band UMTS 3G device on the Microsoft Windows Mobile platform. In 2007, HTC created HTC Touch, a Microsoft Windows Mobile 6 Pocket PC with intuitive TouchFLO touch screen technology.
In 2008, HTC created T-Mobile G1Android device and HTC Max 4G, an Integrated GSM/WiMAX 4G phone which was launched in the Russia.
HTC Hero, HTC Sense smartphone, was launched in 2009. In this year, the company expanded its focus to devices based on the Android. In 2010, HTC expanded its focus to devices based on Windows Phone and launched the HTC EVO 4G (Sprint) smartphone in the U.S.
In 2011, HTC launched HTC Thunderbolt and the HTC Vivid, 4G LTE smartphone on Verizon and AT&T. The company also launched HTC Rezound, a smartphone with Beats Audio in the same year.
HTC Phones
In 2012, HTC launched three products;
1. HTC One X and S, smartphone with f2.0 aperture
2. HTC TITAN II, a 4G LTE Windows Phone
3. HTC DROID DNA with 1080 pixel display
In June 2012, the company moved its headquarters from Taoyuan City (now Taoyuan District) to Xindian District, New Taipei City.
In 2013 HTC One was released and won various industry awards in the best smartphone and best design categories. However, HTC recorded a deficit of just under NT$3 billion. The company also released two variants of HTC One, the HTC One Mini and the HTC One Max.
In 2014, HTC released the next version of the HTC One flagship, HTC One or “M8”. In the same year, Google selected HTC to make its Nexus 9 tablet.
