Sony founders are Akio Morita and Masaru Ibuka. Masaru Ibuka started an electronics shop in a department store building in Tokyo in 1946. Akio Morita joined the company in 1950. They both then founded a company called Tokyo Tsushin Kogyo or Tokyo Telecommunications Engineering Corporation. the company changed its name to Sony in 1058. the name is from Latin word for sonus which means sound and also from the English slang word “sonny”.

Sony Ericsson, is now known as Sony Mobile Communications Inc, was formed in 2001 as a joint venture between Sony and Ericsson. Headquartered in Tokyo, Japan, Sony Communications is now a multinational mobile phone manufacturing company.
Sony Ericsson mobile phone was a multimedia-capable mobile device with some features like cameras. This is a ussual feature now but was an unussual feature at that time. In 2012, Sony acquired Ericsson’s share for over US$1 billion. The company became the fourth-largest mobile phone manufacturer in the world after Nokia, Samsung and LG.
Sony Ericsson K750i and Sony EricssonW800i were introduced 2005. The K750i was a 2 megapixel camera, while the W800i was the first of the Walkman phones capable of 30 hours of music playback. During the same year, the company presented Sony Ericsson P990, the first mobile phone based on UIQ 3.
Sony Ericsson K850i, Sony Ericsson’s first 5-Megapixel camera phone, was announced in 2007. in 2008, the company announces the world’s first 8-Megapixel phone, Sony Ericsson C905. In 2009, the company released Satio, the first 12-Megapixel phone.
In 2007, Sony Ericsson began to struggled as Apple launched its iPhone. The company continued to make bigger losses. In 2011, Sony announced that the company would acquire Ericsson’s stake in Sony Ericsson for €1.05 billion or about $1.47 billion. The full acquisition was completed on February, 2012, making Sony a wholly owned subsidiary of Sony.
In 2012, Sony’s Kaz Hirai announced that Sony Ericsson would be known simply as Sony Mobile Communications. During the next year, the company completed moving its headquarters from Lund, Sweden to Tokyo, Japan.
Today, Sony Mobile Communications stay focus on the smartphone market under the Xperia name. The company introduced three Xperia series at CES 2012, Sony Xperia S, Sony Xperia U and Sony Xperia P.
